Track:

Physics and Electronic with Robotics — Grade 8-12.  This is the  " Level (I) "   under  the Electronic and Robotics Track.


Prerequisites:

MUST possess High proficiency in Algebra I. A grade transcript or equivalent will be required.

Highlight of learning outcome:

  • Electronic knowledge such as Ohm's Law, circuit analysis, , passive and active component study, transistors, FETs, analog and digital theory, and communication protocols such as UART and I2C;
  • Reading schematics and datasheets, exploring PCB design;
  • Virtual circuit construction; real world programming & applications;
  • Programming in one of the most ubiquitous languages used in embedded system.
  • Set up hardware and software to prepare yourself for future practice at home;
  • Schematic sketching with a computer tool;
  • Electronics engineering concepts such as Analog and digital input/output, voltage divider, pull-up vs pull-down resistor, etc.
  • Programming with Arduino-Sketch-C;
  • Basic electronics concepts presented in Advanced Placement Physics C;
  • Interfacing with various analog and digital sensors;
  • Conceptual understanding H-Bridge;
  • Motions with a defined path to sensors-feedback navigation;
  • Debug hardware with a logic analyzer (if time allows).

Prerequisites:

MUST complete level I with satisfactory result or present proof of equivalent experience. 

 

Take Home:

  • Arduino Sensors - Grove Beginner Kit - All-in-one with 10 Sensors and Arduino microcontroller board.
  • Additional I2C devices such as Adafruit RGB (more robust and higher performance), time of flight, and other accessories such as jumper wires, protoboard, etc.
  • Logic Analyzer.
  • Total of approximately $100 value.

  • Reinforcement on topics in Level I.
  • Charlieplexing
  • Multiplexing inputs/keypad
  • 4017 Counter
    Shift register (SIPO)
  • Get under the hood and have a deeper understanding.
  • Learn how to do some tuning for better performance.
  • (The most complex and awesome outcome of this workshop)   Instead of using pre-existing libraries, they will create their own libraries to interfaces with motor driver,  interrupts, and a few other I2C devices.

Hardware - Grove Beginner Kit for Arduino and other electronic devices.Devices are ready to be picked up one week prior to the class starts. If you reside more than 45 miles away from Storming Robots, we will ship the hardware to your home.
Zoom online meeting softwareYou must have the ability to share screen of computer, microphone, headset/earphones, and cell phone/web cam to share video during classes.

This is a hands-on workshop which teaches you basics in using an open-source platform to create your own electronic project.

This class is custom designed to tailor those interested in learning electronics from the ground up and looking forward to leveraging that knowledge to further their interest in robotics.

Storming Robots brings learning about electronics home via a game changer controller board kit - The Grove™ Beginner Kit for Arduino®. This learning kit is powered by one Arduino UNO™ compatible Board (ATmega320p™ based Seeeduino® Lotus) together with a wealth of 10 additional Grove® Arduino sensors all in one piece of the board.

The whole goal is to equip you with the fundamental design principles of modularity and abstraction in a variety of contexts from electrical engineering and computer science. This should enable students to pursue more challenging robotics projects or any electronic DIY projects at home; as well as gaining a head-start in college. Classes will start out with all pre-wired modules, i.e. no breadboard and jumper cables required. So, parents, there is low risk of shorting out circuits and no high heat soldering. It is taking on plug-and-play model.

Classes will start out with all pre-wired modules, i.e. no breadboard and jumper cables required. As class advances, students will dig further into what is on each module and simulate the actual circuits using Autodesk’s TinkerCad free and online simulator. From there, modules can be broken out and added as needed using the Grove system to complete fully functional projects such as home monitoring

Then, classes will extend electronic learning beyond what this basic kit offers. Students will break down each module so that students will utilize Grove cables to connect the modules.
